About Costalina
Not a design studio. Not a fashion week. A supermarket in Colombia, where I found a bikini on a random rack that ended up being the best swimwear I've ever owned. Years later I still wear it. I still get compliments on it. And I always think why can't women in the US have this?
I'm a New Yorker with Colombian roots, and Miami has been home for the last eight years. I have always lived 15 minutes away from the beach. And for a long time I couldn't find a bikini that actually fit the way I wanted, represented where I came from, or made me feel like myself.
Growing up with Colombian parents, I know what our women think about swimwear. It's not an afterthought. It's an art. Colombian women are serious about the fit, the fabric, the way it moves on your body. That culture and that craftsmanship rarely makes it over here the way it should.
I also grew up with the pressure that comes with being Colombian the beauty standards, the expectations, the idea that your body needs to look a certain way before you deserve to feel good in what you're wearing. As I've gotten older I've let that go. It was never about the size. It was never about the curves or the lack of them. It was always about feeling comfortable in your own skin.
I designed three sets myself and worked with a factory in Colombia to bring them to life. The cuts are cheeky but wearable not the kind that only look good on one body type. Flattering on real women, made with real craftsmanship, made in Colombia.
hecha para el agua.
Good swimwear should feel like a second skin. Costalina is the Colombian craft and the Miami heat, all in one.
